Since James Milner, no player has played for both Manchester City and Liverpool.

Milner signed for Liverpool in 2015, a time when the Reds were not the elite side they are nowadays.

However, in a few years’ time, Jurgen Klopp turned the Merseyside-based club into one of the best teams in the world and since then, they have been rivals with Manchester City.

Manchester City shut down reports of eyeing Luis Diaz last year when he was surprisingly linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

But it looks like there was truth to the £65 million (Sky Sports) man’s links to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Luis Diaz wanted to sign for Man City from Liverpool

The Telegraph have revealed that in the summer of 2024, Diaz wanted to sign for Manchester City.

Arne Slot’s side approved the now-Bayern Munich winger’s desire.

However, in exchange, Liverpool were keen to sign Julian Alvarez. Manchester City informed Liverpool that they do not sell players to rivals, which prompted the Premier League champions to provide the same response to the Sky Blues as they ended up keeping Diaz.

Meanwhile, Manchester City banked £64.6 million from Alvarez’s sale as Atletico Madrid ended up signing him in a deal that rises to £81.5 million including add-ons.
