The signing of Erling Haaland has been a major success for Man City over the last three years.

With his father having played for the Manchester club, a move to the Etihad Stadium seemed inevitable for the Norway international when he decided he would leave Borussia Dortmund during the summer of 2022.

Haaland was an immediate success at Man City as Pep Guardiola’s side would go on to win the treble in his first season and throughout his time in Manchester, the 24-year-old has produced 120 goals and 20 assists across 138 games.

These are incredible numbers, however, BBC pundit Pat Nevin believes another striker would have scored more had he joined City during the summer of 2021.

Erling Haaland told Harry Kane would have scored more goals at Man City

Man City showed interest in Harry Kane during the summer of 2021; however, a deal for the Englishman could not get done, hence why Guardiola moved for Haaland a year later.

Alan Shearer suggested at the time that Kane would have been jealous of watching Haaland’s success at the Etihad Stadium during the 2022/23 campaign, but that would not last long as the Englishman would secure a £86m move to Bayern Munich during the summer after that season.

Speaking about Kane winning his first trophy this weekend, BBC pundit Pat Nevin was full of praise for the Bayern striker and even went on to say that the 31-year-old would have scored more goals than Haaland had he moved to Man City in 2021.

“They’re absolutely fantastic. English people, I’m an outsider slightly, so English people have a kind of look at they love Harry, but I actually don’t think they rate Harry Kane as highly as they should do,” Nevin said on the BBC’s Football Daily Podcast.

“And the reason why, I actually think if you stick Harry Kane in Manchester City, would he score less goals than Erling Haaland did in his period of time there?

“I don’t think so. I think Harry Kane would have scored an extraordinary number of goals, had he been at the front of a team that is at the very top of the league and created all those chances.”

Many have already had the debate over who is better between Haaland and Kane, with Man City very likely to be happy with how things played out.

How does Harry Kane compare to Man City’s Erling Haaland

Michael Owen admitted that he would have Kane over Haaland with the former Liverpool striker one of many pundits to comment on the topic.

The Bayern Munich star is an outstanding player, however, Man City made the right decision when moving for Haaland in 2023.

The numbers between the strikers are very close, but it needs to be considered that the Norwegian star is playing in a stronger league and with a team that has struggled throughout the current campaign.

Haaland has been out injured for over a month, yet the 24-year-old has still produced 30 goals and four assists this season.

The striker is also younger than Kane, has more sell-on value than the English forward, and there is still room for the Norwegian superstar to improve.

Kane is an incredible player; however, missing out on the former Tottenham star during the summer of 2021 proved to be a blessing in disguise for Man City.
