It has been reported that it would take a ‘crazy bid’ for Manchester City to wrap up the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
This comes from Fabrizio Romano, who told Caught Offside about City’s chances of signing the 20-year-old.
The Italian journalist believes that unless Manchester City are well and truly willing to break the bank to sign Florian Wirtz, a move is rather unlikely.
Fabrizio Romano: Manchester City must make ‘crazy bid’ to sign Florian Wirtz
Branded as ‘outstanding’ by Soccerment, the German international was once compared to Lionel Messi by Xabi Alonso.
With Kevin De Bruyne set to be sidelined for three to four months, the youngster could perhaps be brought in to shoulder City’s creative burden alongside Phil Foden this season.
But Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the prospect of Florian Wirtz becoming a Manchester City player seem unlikely currently.

“Only a completely crazy bid could change Bayer Leverkusen’s stance, but no negotiations are taking place at this stage and sources expect him to stay. Leverkusen aren’t even quoting a price tag at this stage”, he explained.
Florian Wirtz would become a superstar under Pep Guardiola
If Florian Wirtz does end up joining Manchester City, there is no a better coach in the world to hone his talent than Pep Guardiola.
The highly-rated talent is quite similar to Phil Foden stylistically in terms of being a technically gifted left-footed attacking midfielder who is capable of producing goals and assists.
Pep Guardiola, however is responsible for elevating the five-time Premier League winner into an incredibly multifaceted attacker, who is capable of playing the game at a variety of tempos.
By testing Wirtz’s versatility, tasking with him specific tactical instructions and using him in accordance with his biggest strengths in his system, Guardiola could nurture him into becoming an elite player.
While a move does seem unlikely currently, it would be fascinating to witness the pair work together.
