Rico Lewis has said that he told his family at the start of last season that Manchester City would win the treble.
The previous campaign saw Pep Guardiola’s side win their third Premier League title in a row, as well as the FA Cup and their first Champions League.
With Lewis having played a part in the treble-winning season, he has shared some details on what he told his family in the early stages of the campaign.
Lewis says he knew City would win the treble
Speaking in a recent video on the club’s official YouTube channel, Lewis had this to say about last season and City’s treble victory.
He said: “From the start of the season I thought we were going to win the treble. I told my Dad, I told everyone I think we’re going to win it.

“Obviously, it’s easy to say that now but I genuinely did think we would. It’s amazing to win it but for myself, I’d like to be more part of it in the future and that is one of my goals.”
In the Premier League, City ended the season with 89 points from 28 wins, five draw and five defeats, despite spending the majority of the campaign in second place behind Arsenal.
After that, the Citizens won the FA Cup by beating Manchester United in the final and then lifting their first Champions League title thanks to a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in Istanbul.
With Lewis featuring in 23 games last season, it’s easy to see why the 18-year-old wants to be involved in the team more often in the future, especially if it results in more trophies being lifted.
This season has seen the full-back featuring in two of City’s four Premier League games, starting one of them.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, it’ll be interesting to see how much game time Lewis gets and what sort of impact he has in potentially seeing his side regain the titles he predicted they would win last season.
