“The way he sets his team up tactically, the details he is giving to his players, but at the same time, the motivation to keep them performing game after game at the highest level is incredible. That is the main thing for me. He is demanding of them and to be able to repeat that. To motivate himself, to motivate his players is a skill.”
Kolo Toure says that despite the challenge Manchester City face of staying motivated after winning the treble, they have the perfect motivator in Pep Guardiola, who is bound to get a tune out of his players.
“Of course, now it’s going to be a big challenge because everyone was waiting for the Champions League. It’s here now but I have no doubt that Pep will keep the players on top and up there.”
“At the same time, a few players have left and it’s important that they replaced them well and keep the standard high because they have unbelievable players. Pep has fantastic tools to work with, fantastic players but he makes players better.”
“He pushes them to do extra. He pushes them to reach the top level, each of them. When he sees you and he know you can reach that level, he will push you. He will expect them to do a little bit more and that’s what players want.”
Ultimately, Pep Guardiola is an absolute genius and it is hard not to be awestruck by him, even as a respected figure in the game like Kolo Toure.
