Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap has enjoyed an impressive season despite his side losing their Premier League relegation battle at the first hurdle.

Liam Delap was tested against the likes of Manchester City and, while Ipswich were soundly beaten twice this term, he did enough to suggest he belongs in the Premier League.

Delap, who was previously on City’s books, has now spoken about Etihad Stadium star Ruben Dias and where he ranks among the toughest defenders he has faced this season.

Delap is the latest guest on Sky Sports’ Sticker Book show and he was asked to pick the top player out of several four-man shortlists.

The shortlist consisted of Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes, Manchester City powerhouse Ruben Dias and Nottingham Forest’s Murillo.

Liam Delap says Ruben Dias has ‘done incredible things’ but Manchester City star snubbed

Delap spoke highly of all four, deeming Van Dijk “one of the best centre-backs in the world over the last few seasons” and saying Gabriel has “become such a good centre-back.”

Delap worked alongside Dias at City and the Ipswich ace said: “He’s done incredible things, he’s won everything, and he’s such a good player.”

However, the Ipswich man overlooked Dias when it came for his pick – though he also snubbed Van Dijk and Gabriel.

Delap opted for Murillo above the rest, saying he’s been “really impressed” with the Forest defender this season.

Could Murillo become a summer target for the likes of Manchester City?

Murillo has been a revelation for Forest this season, helping Nuno Espirito Santo’s side mount a sustained challenge for Europe.

Given his fine form, the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been impressed with his performances over the last 12 months.

However, Murillo signed a new contract with Forest at the start of the year, committing his future to the City Ground until the summer of 2029.

Transfer insider Graeme Bailey understands that Murillo’s new Forest deal does not contain a release clause either.

In addition, the left-footed centre-back is more than happy to be staying at Forest, who are still dreaming of a Champions League finish this season.

In a nutshell, it will be incredibly difficult for anybody to sign Murillo this summer.
