Manchester City will be in the market for several new players this summer as the club seek to continue their rebuild.

2024/25 has been a very tough season, and Manchester City are still in a big battle to secure Champions League football for next term.

It has become clear over the course of the season that the squad needs refreshing, with several senior players having struggled.

It’s thought Manchester City could move on a high number of players in the summer transfer window, and replace them with younger stars ready for a new era.

Hugo Viana will be a busy man in his first transfer window as director of football, and the likelihood is that most positions in the team will be looked at for possible strengthening.

Defensive recruits are likely, and one player City are now looking at is Mario Gila.

It’s been claimed by Caught Offside that Manchester City are now interested in Lazio defender Mario Gila.

Gila has made 37 appearances so far this term, and has impressed for the Italian outfit.

Gila is currently attracting attention from several clubs. From the Premier League, City and Tottenham Hotspur both like the player.

But there’s also admiration from Bayern Munich and Gila’s former club Real Madrid.

Caught Offside state Lazio could sell for around £34-39 million.

Interestingly, there is word on Pep Guardiola’s feelings about the player. He is said to appreciate Gila’s ‘composure, passing ability and understanding of defence’.

Mario Gila admires Josko Gvardiol

Gila is clearly quite coveted at the moment. But it’s possible City have a trump card to play.

And that comes in the form of Josko Gvardiol, who is a player Gila has said he admires.

As quoted by The Laziali last November, Gila said when discussing his role models: “Sergio Ramos is and will always be my idol. I love everything about him: his style of play, how he motivates the team, what he transmits to his teammates. I was lucky enough to be able to train with him.

“These days, I really like Gvardiol from Manchester City.”

Perhaps this admiration for Gvardiol might be something that allows City to move ahead in the race to sign Gila this summer.

Hopefully, the Spaniard will join, especially given the worrying injury records of John Stones and Nathan Ake.
