Manchester City took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break of their Premier League opener with Wolves.

Paul Merson predicted Man City to come away from Molineux with all three points; however, the pundit didn’t think Pep Guardiola’s side would have it all their own way, and that proved the case during the opening 30 minutes.

Erling Haaland would eventually give City the lead with 34 minutes on the clock, before Tijjani Reijnders netted on his debut three minutes later.

The Dutchman was the star of the show during the opening 45 minutes against Wolves, but Man City fans have been talking about another member of Guardiola’s squad.

Man City believe Oscar Bobb is their David Silva replacement

Last season was a tough one for Oscar Bobb as the Norwegian star suffered a serious injury at the start of the campaign, which affected his entire 24/25 season.

The 22-year-old looks to be making up for lost time against Wolves as the midfielder produced an assist for Reijnders’ goal and overall looked sharp.

This did not go unnoticed by Man City fans, with some stating that the Manchester club have finally found a replacement for David Silva, who left the Etihad Stadium in 2020.

One Man City fan commented on Bobb’s performance on X (formerly known as Twitter) by stating: “Oscar Bobb is so good, wouldn’t be shocked if he has a breakout season this year.

A second fan of the Manchester club added: “Bobb is one of our sharpest pressers, arguably more valuable there than even in pure association play. That said, his link-ups are brilliant, the Bobb–Lewis axis on the right is a joy to watch, their understanding/timing elevates the right side. I’m loving the combination.”

A final Man City fan stated: “Oscar Bobb moving like prime Messi.”

Bobb could be a huge asset to Guardiola if he can keep fit throughout the 2025/26 campaign, which is perfect timing, following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne over the summer.

Oscar Bobb’s first-half display against Wolves in numbers

Not only did Bobb’s display in the first half against Wolves pass the eye test, but the numbers back up the impact the Norwegian had on the game.

The 22-year-old completed the most dribbles (3) in the first half at Molineux Wolves, recording 90% accuracy from his 20 passes and a 100% success rate for dribbles and long balls.

Man City fans will also hope his assist will be the first of many this season, as the Norway international has just reminded the Premier League of how good he is.
