Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing young Schalke winger Matthew Hoppe.
The USA teenager has been enjoying a breakout campaign over the Bundesliga with Schalke after making his debut earlier this season.
Hoppe has wowed with some lively performances, scoring five goals in 11 league games so far.
The starlet made headlines for bagging a hat-trick against Hoffenheim last month, the 4-0 win being Schalke’s first victory after going 30 matches without one.
City aren’t the only side keen on Hoppe; it’s claimed Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are all keeping their eye on the talent.
Potentially, Hoppe – described recently by Schalke boss Christian Gross as ‘unbelievably ambitious’ (via Yahoo) – could be leaving the club in the summer.
At the moment Schalke are in real trouble and sit rock-bottom of the Bundesliga table, nine points adrift of safety – that win over Hoffenheim being their only one all season.
There’s every chance he could seek pastures new.
Hoppe an exciting talent
Schalke have history of producing players that go on to make big names for themselves in football.
The likes of Manuel Neuer, Benedikt Howedes, Joel Matip, Mesut Ozil, Weston McKennie, Julian Draxler and Leroy Sane all came through the club’s youth ranks, and Hoppe may well be the next big deal.
City have got to fancy their chances. Pep Guardiola is obviously a proven developer of young talent and the idea of joining a team that wins both games and trophies consistently is surely what Hoppe desperately wants given his experiences in senior football so far.
