On the whole, Manchester City have enjoyed a summer that has put them in a strong position to compete for the Premier League title next season.
City’s signings of Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Ait-Nouri in particular would excite Pep Guardiola, as all three players impressed at the FIFA Club World Cup and have had the time to gel with their new teammates.
Manchester City still have defensive flaws and in the 2025/2026 season, a player who will especially be key to keeping Guardiola and Co solid at the back is Ruben Dias.
The Sky Blues value Dias massively, as he has been tied down to a contract extension in principle, as per journalist David Ornstein. However, several Manchester City fans believe the 28-year-old does deserve to be rewarded with a new deal after enduring a difficult previous campaign.

Man City fans unhappy about Ruben Dias agreeing new contract
One frustrated Manchester City fan reacted to Dias being handed a brand-new contract by simply writing: “We’re not serious, fair enough.”
Another City supporter claimed that considering Dias’ contract at Manchester City expires in 2027, the club should have bided their time before offering him a new deal, claiming: “He already has two years left on his contract so should’ve waited for one more season before extending the contract.”
A third Manchester City fan claimed if Dias signs a new contract, he will be phased out by Pep Guardiola’s potential replacement in 2027 and the club will struggle to replace him: “Going to be hilarious when he’s phased out by the next manager and we can’t find someone to buy him.”
A fourth City supporter simply wrote: “Sad that a lot of City fans consider this good news. We never learn.”
Another Sky Blues supporter claimed that Rodri’s contract offer becoming finalised is all that matters as the Portuguese centre-back is no longer the force of nature he once was, writing: “If it’s not Rodri, we couldn’t care less. He was the best CB [centre-back] in the world two years ago. He’s fallen off massively since.”
Finally, a sixth Manchester City fan believes that Dias has fallen from grace and handing him a new contract could backfire on Pep Guardiola’s men: “A little honesty won’t kill, you know. He’s paid his dues and given his best years for City which I appreciate but extending his contract when he’s pretty much on the decline is not such a smart move I think.”
Next season, the former Benfica defender must step up his game or risk losing a majority of the faith City fans have in him once and for all.
Why Ruben Dias’ contract talks at Man City were kept on hold
Dias has a case for being considered a Manchester City legend and the fans would perhaps like nothing more than to witness him return to his best once he pens a contract extension.
At his best, the four-time Premier League winner is a world-class centre-back and the leader of their defence.
Interestingly, contract talks between City and Dias were on hold as the club’s primary focus was to tie Erling Haaland down to a bumper nine-and-a-half year deal.
After persuading Haaland to put pen to paper, his teammate is set to follow in the Norwegian’s direction.
