Kalvin Phillips is now set to leave Manchester City in January after falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola.

That is according to iNews.

So, what is the latest on Kalvin Phillips at Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the England international was hoping for a chance in the starting XI after Rodri found himself suspended for three games, following his red card in the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

However, Guardiola only handed Phillips a start in the 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat against Newcastle, with the Spaniard opting for Mateo Kovacic in the 2-1 loss to Wolves, and Rico Lewis in Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Now – according to iNews – it is increasingly likely that the Manchester City No.4 leaves the Etihad Stadium in January.

It is said that Phillips actually came close to leaving Manchester City in the summer as Guardiola was open to a sale.

However, the £160,000-a-week man himself decided to stay, as he felt it was too early to give up on his career at the Etihad Stadium after just one season.

Now – however – Phillips is set to leave in January, as he still finds himself on the bench even with Rodri absent.

Since making a £45m move to Manchester City from Leeds United in June 2022, the 27-year-old has only made two starts in the Premier League.

Where Kalvin Phillips could go as Manchester City exit beckons

Interestingly, a few potential destinations have already been mentioned for Phillips.

It is mentioned in the story from iNews that Newcastle and Everton are keen on the Leeds-born midfielder.

The Toffees are said to have explored a loan move in the summer – but did not have the finances to pull it off.

Bayern Munich, Liverpool and West Ham also showed interest during the summer transfer window, so those three clubs could rival Newcastle and Everton for Phillips this winter.

Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as anything could happen in 2024.
