Manchester City have a rich trophy history and are now a powerhouse of the English game.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s takeover in 2008 has delivered a seemingly endless stream of success to continually strengthen the list of titles won.

The 2011/12 Premier League triumph was Manchester City’s first top-flight trophy since their 1967/68 First Division crown.

More recent years have also delivered vast successes in the domestic cup competitions and City also won their first Champions League trophy in 2023.

Manchester City’s top-flight titles

The old First Division marked the first English top-flight trophy Manchester City added to their list of titles in 1936/37.

The Blues would only win the top flight once more before the maiden season of the breakaway Premier League in 1992/93. But Sheikh Mansour’s takeover turned them into a great force.

Along with the top-flight trophies on the list of how many titles Manchester City have won, the club have also lifted seven lower-tier crowns. The Citizens would often top the second-tier whenever the club found themselves outside of the top-flight. They last played in the second tier back in 2001/02.

The first trophy won in Manchester City’s history came in 1903/04 with the FA Cup. It was the club’s 13th campaign of organised league football and their 11th attempt at winning the tournament.

City had only progressed beyond the first round twice before.

FA Cup titles feature throughout City’s trophy history having enjoyed success in multiple decades. But City are yet to ever retain the title having also endured some lengthy droughts.

Pep Guardiola’s side had the chance to finally win it in successive seasons in 2023/24 in a repeat of the previous year’s final against Manchester United. But their neighbours emerged 2-1 winners.

City entered the English Football League Cup (EFL Cup) for the first time in the 1960/61 season. They have since become one of the most successful teams in the competition’s history.

City won four titles in a row from 2018 to 2021 amid their run of six trophies in eight campaigns.

City have also won seven Community Shields. Few clubs can rival the City’s record for outright wins in the traditional curtain-raiser to the English season.

City have three European titles in their trophy history with the Cup Winners’ Cup, the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.

The Blues beat Polish side Gornik Zabrze in the final for their first UEFA title. Their route to the final also featured wins over Club Athletic and Schalke.

It took City another 53 years to add another European title to their trophy cabinet.

City returned to the Champions League final and beat Inter 1-0 through Rodri’s goal in 2023 after losing 1-0 to Chelsea two years earlier.

But it did not take that long for their third continental honour. City contested for the UEFA Super Cup against Europa League winners Sevilla in August 2023.

City would win 5-4 on penalties after Cole Palmer equalised through a 63rd-minute header.

Manchester City won the last of their five major trophies of 2023 when they were crowned FIFA Club World Cup champions in December.

City qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament after winning the 2022/23 Champions League final and beat Urawa Red Diamonds 3-0 to progress to the final.

They then defeated Fluminense 4-0 thanks to a brace from Julian Alvarez and further goals from Phil Foden and Nino, who scored an own goal.
