Manchester City target Ian Maatsen is now in advanced talks to join Borussia Dortmund from Chelsea.

That is according to BILD.

So, what is the latest on Manchester City target Ian Maatsen? Let’s take a look…

Maatsen update

Well, rumours coming from the Etihad Stadium strongly suggest that Pep Guardiola wants a new left-back at the Etihad Stadium.

It was TEAMtalk who initially claimed that Manchester City are monitoring Maatsen as he enters the final 18 months of his contract at Chelsea.

Now, however – according to BILD – Borussia Dortmund have made significant progress with a bid to sign the Dutchman.

The German news outlet believe the Bundesliga side are in advanced talks to sign Maatsen in a £17m deal from Chelsea.

It comes after the Netherlands U21 international was the subject of a £31.5m bid from Burnley back in September – which Chelsea actually accepted, only for the defender to reject Vincent Kompany.

Maatsen has made 12 Premier League appearances for Chelsea so far this season, although 11 of those have come as a substitute.

Manchester City should bid for Maatsen

In our view, Manchester City should test the waters with an £18m bid for Maatsen.

The 21-year-old is a tremendous prospect, having made the Championship Team of the Year last season, and is clearly now available for a cut-price fee as a result of his contract situation.

Chelsea could have sold Maatsen in the summer for roughly double what Borussia Dortmund are offering, had he agreed to join Burnley, so Txiki Begiristain should be all over this opportunity.

Signing the Vlaardingen-born defender could also help Josko Gvardiol settle in, as the Croatian has been playing at left-back away from his natural position in the centre.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Borussia Dortmund negotiate a deal for Maatsen.
