Kalvin Phillips has failed to make a huge impact at Manchester City since his move from Leeds United in the summer of 2022, and, according to Micah Richards, a big reason is Rodri.
Rodri is the number one defensive midfielder at Manchester City.
The 27-year-old is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, perhaps even the best.
The £220,000-a-week (Spotrac) Spain international plays for City whenever he is fit and available.
Rodri affecting Kalvin Phillips at Manchester City
And, according to former City star and BBC Sport pundit Micah Richards, that is a big reason why Kalvin Phillips has not been able to star for the Citizens, who won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League last season.
Phillips made two starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.
The former Leeds United star has played just 45 minutes in the Premier League so far this campaign.
Rodri is suspended at the moment, so Phillips is getting his chance.

Richards said about Phillips on The Rest is Football podcast: “It has just been difficult for Phillips, hasn’t it?
“Rodri is the best defensive midfielder. He rarely missed a game.
“It’s an absolute killer for Phillips.
“What they do is bring in Kovacic, and now you have Matheus Nunes.”
Kalvin Phillips should persevere at Manchester City
I believe that Kalvin Phillips should continue to work hard and persevere at Manchester City for the rest of the season.
Phillips did well against Newcastle United in the EFL Cup in midweek.
And, if the 27-year-old England international midfielder plays against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Saturday, then he should take his chance.
I do not think that Phillips should even think of leaving City in January.
Perhaps next summer the Englishman could consider an exit, but not in the middle of the season.
