Well, the Portugal international believes his fellow countryman is actually the current best Portuguese footballer after playing a crucial role in five trophy wins for Manchester City in 2023.
Silva has been instrumental for Pep Guardiola as the Citizens lifted the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Speaking about Silva, Cancelo said: “Bernardo – for me – is currently the best Portuguese player. In my opinion, I think he is a fantastic player. I’m a fan of Bernardo.
“He knows that, both professionally and personally. I think there are very few players like him. Sometimes, Portuguese people – and also others from other nationalities – do not appreciate him.”
With Cristiano Ronaldo still active – and the leading goalscorer of 2023 with 53 goals to his name – it speaks volumes that Cancelo said Silva is the current best Portuguese footballer.

While the pair clearly hold a strong relationship, they may never play for Manchester City together again.
A story from SPORT in Spain claims that Cancelo could be swapped for Barcelona No.3 Alejandro Balde, with the Spanish giants determined to turn his loan into a permanent deal, despite being strapped for cash.
Manchester City are said to want at least €30m (£26m) to sell the defender.
