Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen is reportedly in talks over a potential permanent transfer move away from the club.

The Citizens saw numerous players make moves away from the Etihad Stadium during the previous transfer window such as Ilkay Gundogan, Cole Palmer and Riyad Mahrez, among others.

Now though, with the latest January transfer window around the corner, City could be about to wave goodbye to another player.

According to a recent report from The Athletic, Colorado Rapids are in advanced talks over a deal to sign Steffen, who was unable to secure a loan deal out of the Manchester club last summer due to him being injured.

The report also adds that the deal is not yet done but talks are progressing for the shot-stopper.

City secured a deal worth around £7m for the goalkeeper back in December 2018 from Columbus Crew.

Having then officially joined the club in the summer of 2019, the 28-year-old has gone on to make 21 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, keeping eight clean sheets and conceding 16 goals along the way.

Across his 42 Championship appearances last season, the American faced 153 shots on target and saved 104 of them, leaving him with a save percentage of 68%.

Steffen spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough, where he kept 10 clean sheets and conceded 56 goals across 45 matches in all competitions.

With City having Ederson, Stefan Ortega Moreno and Scott Carson in their senior squad at the moment, it’s easy to see why the club are seemingly open to moving Steffen out.

If this deal were to happen, it’d be nice if the USA international can get some regular game time again and show everyone what he’s capable of rather than waste his time at City.
