Stefan Ortega reportedly wants to leave Manchester City and join Bayern Munich this summer.

Yesterday, it was reported that the German club have held discussions over a potential transfer move for the shot-stopper.

Now though, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the player’s current stance on the matter.

According to a recent report from German media outlet, Ran, Ortega wants to join Bayern and take up the opportunity to be their first-choice goalkeeper.

The report also adds that City are currently blocking Ortega from going anywhere until they potentially bring in a suitable replacement.

Last summer, the Citizens signed the shot-stopper as a free agent from Arminia Bielefeld on a three-year deal.

Across his debut season at the Etihad Stadium, the German kept nine clean sheets across 14 appearances and even racked up a 100% save percentage after saving all of the 10 shots on target he faced in the six games he played in.

Having featured in the Community Shield earlier in the month, which saw City lose to Arsenal on penalties after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, Ortega then saw Ederson start ahead of him in the club’s 3-0 win over Burnley in the Premier League.

In our view, it’s understandable why the 30-year-old would be interested in playing for the top club in his country and have the chance to feature regularly for them rather than have to compete with Ederson for game time at City.

However, given how impressive he proved to be across his debut season at the Etihad, we feel that the treble winners should not consider letting the German leave this summer.
