The £300,000-a-week star featured for Portugal in their final Euro 2024 qualifying match and Roberto Martinez’s side ran out 2-0 winners. It meant that the nation finished their qualifying campaign with 10 wins from their 10 games.

Bernardo Silva receives praise from national media after latest Portugal display vs Iceland

£43 million City signing Bernardo played for just over an hour against Iceland, which was somewhat surprising considering Portugal had already topped their group.
But Martinez fielded a fairly strong side, and that was likely always going to result in a comfortable win for Portugal.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring and it was City maestro Bernardo who set him up with a lovely backheel assist.
Portuguese outlet A Bola were impressed with Bernardo’s overall display. They gave him a 7/10, saying: “How wonderful the movement dragging opponents, followed by a beautiful backheel assist for Bruno Fernandes’ 1-0. It was his 23rd assist for the national team, as many as Nani and one less than (Joao) Moutinho. To that golden moment, he added a great move in the 59th minute, only missing the effect he wanted to give to the ball, seeing it graze the post.”
Bernardo will be key for Man City in coming weeks
So that’s two more good performance under Bernardo’s belt which should prepare him nicely for the game with Liverpool on Saturday and the upcoming festive period.
City have a number of injuries at the moment and so Bernardo is going to be absolutely key for Pep Guardiola.
Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic have both picked up knocks, while John Stones also got injured against BSC Young Boys.
Bernardo – who was recently likened to David Silva by Joleon Lescott – is one of the best players in the world, and hopefully City can manage his workload well amid a very hectic period. It really would be awful to lose him to injury.
