Matheus Nunes put in a disappointing performance during Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Everton.
Two goals from Erling Haaland led the Citizens to three points this afternoon at the Etihad Stadium, taking them a step closer to potentially regaining the Premier League title.
Despite the positive result, one player who started the game for the home side delivered a performance that we feel didn’t reach the usual standard from a City player.
Nunes disappointed against Everton

The midfielder, who City signed from Wolves for £53m during the previous summer transfer window, completed the first half against the Toffees but was taken off in the 57th minute to be replaced by Kevin De Bruyne.
During his time on the pitch, Nunes had 42 touches of the ball in total but was only able to accurately complete 24 of the 30 passes he attempted.
In fact, he misplaced the three crosses and two long-ball passes he tried to make as well as only completing just one of the four dribbles he made.
In terms of his work off the ball, the midfielder didn’t make a tackle or interception and ended up losing four of the six duels he was involved in.
With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Pep Guardiola chose to substitute him in the second half.
This display ultimately earned Nunes a rather underwhelming overall match rating of 6.7/10 from SofaScore, making him the lowest-rated City player on the day.
While he will be happy to see his team pick up a win and keep a clean sheet in the process, we think that Guardiola could well be disappointed by what he saw from the Portuguese international on this occasion.
Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see if this performance has any impact on whether or not Guardiola decides to keep Nunes in the team for City’s upcoming Champions League match against Copenhagen.
