£54m player has been struggling since missing out on Man City move in January but Pep Guardiola still wants him

Missing out on a move to Manchester City can certainly define a career.

The chance to work under Pep Guardiola – perhaps the greatest manager ever – and fight for major honours practically every season must be hard to resist for most players, while Manchester City can also offer wages from the top drawer.

Therefore, the alleged feelings of Andrea Cambiaso can be understood.

Tuttosport state that the Italy international has struggled to perform since he saw a move to Manchester City fail to materialise in the winter transfer window, although the saga remains very much alive.

Andrea Cambiaso update given as Pep Guardiola interest remains

TBR Football reported in January that Manchester City held talks with Juventus over a deal for Cambiaso, with the Serie A side demanding £54m.

After already spending roughly £180m on Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzales, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov – however – Manchester City walked away.

Tuttosport now state that Cambiaso has delivered a string of terrible performances since the transfer window closed, and looks “empty” in Turin.

However, the article states that Guardiola remains a fan of the 25-year-old, and a move to the Etihad Stadium cannot be ruled out.

Tuttosport even believe Manchester City could double Cambiaso’s wages this summer.

It is also worth noting that the Juventus No.27 was carrying an injury at the time Manchester City spoke to Juventus, another possible reason why the Citizens put the move on hold, and why he has struggled to perform well since recovering.

Andrea Cambiaso set to replace Kyle Walker

In our view, the Italian is being primed to replace a long-serving Manchester City player.

Guardiola has decided to sell Kyle Walker when the England international returns from his loan spell at AC Milan this summer, with the Italian giants unwilling to make the deal permanent.

Cambiaso can play on either the left or right, but the emergence of Nico O’Reilly on the left suggests to us that only a new right-back is wanted to take over from Matheus Nunes in that area.
