Manchester City made it 10 wins in a row on Saturday, with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Everton at the Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland was at the double for the hosts, with the Norwegian grabbing his first goals since returning from injury.

City did go top of the Premier League briefly, but Liverpool’s win over Burnley pushed the Citizens back down to second.

Kevin De Bruyne’s introduction was the key for City, after Everton had given a good account of themselves defensively. But Haaland lashed in from a Julian Alvarez corner, before De Bruyne slipped the striker in for his second.

He then slipped Haaland in late on for his second.

Prior to the Belgian coming on City were struggling, although Frank Leboeuf did pick out one City player who was good…

City’s win was discussed by the punditry team over at ESPN FC, and World Cup winner Frank Leboeuf was speaking about how it was a poor display for two-thirds of the game from the hosts.

But in his eyes, there was one player who looked like making something happen for City – and that was Jeremy Doku.

He said: “It was 70 minutes of painfulness, I will say, from Manchester City. Not only due to their sloppiness, it was also due to the Toffees who did their job. They defended very well, defending is also an art. Sean Dyche did very well with the guys and they worked very hard.

“Only Doku offered some situations for City.”

Doku – who was also praised by Neil Lennon after the game – played for 87 minutes for City against Everton, and won 7/12 duels and supplied two key passes (Sofascore).

Doku such a livewire for City

It is really good that City have a player like Doku, who does offer something completely different in those wide areas.

Jack Grealish and Bernardo Silva are all about control, whereas Doku is all about being direct and getting in behind.

Quite often teams will sit deep against City and you just need someone to have a go. Doku has the ability to beat defenders with that rapid acceleration he has, and it will definitely come in handy many times while he’s at the club.
