Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol put in a solid performance in his latest appearance for Croatia on the international stage.

In their latest qualifying match for Euro 2024, Croatia fell to a 1-0 defeat to Turkey. Despite that, one player in the Croatian side managed to deliver a strong display and show how capable he is.

Even though he was unable to keep a clean sheet on this occasion, Gvardiol still showed how much of a defensive unit he is.

With the full 90 minutes under his belt, the 21-year-old made three clearances, two interceptions, one tackle and blocked one shot, as well as not getting dribbled past in even one instance.

In addition to winning 71% of the duels he was involved in, the centre-back also showed how comfortable and useful he can be with the ball at his feet as well.

For example, as well as racking up a passing accuracy percentage of 94% and making two key passes, the defender also completed one successful dribble.

This performance ultimately earned the City star an overall match rating of 7.4/10 from SofaScore, making him the joint-highest-rated Croatia player on the day.

Croatia’s next game sees them take on Wales on Sunday for their latest qualifying match for next year’s Euros, which could well give Gvardiol another opportunity to deliver a strong performance for his country.

With all of that taken into account, it’s safe to assume that despite the result, Gvardiol’s efforts will have impressed Pep Guardiola and put the defender in with a good chance of playing regularly for the Citizens once the latest international break comes to an end.
