83% dribbles completed: £55m Man City star absolutely ran the show vs Brighton

Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku put in a show-stopping performance against Brighton & Hove Albion.

After falling to two defeats against Wolves and Arsenal, the Citizens got back to winning ways this afternoon by beating Brighton 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

A second-half goal from Ansu Fati wasn’t enough to cancel out the home side’s first-half strikes from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland.

Despite not getting his name on the scoresheet on this occasion, one City player who managed to make a big impact on the game was Doku.

The winger got off to a flying start to the match by providing the assist for Alvarez’s opening goal, giving former City player James Milner, who started the game at right-back for the Seagulls, a tough opening few minutes.

Across Doku’s 75 minutes on the pitch, he had 56 touches of the ball in total and was able to show how much of an attacking threat he can be.

Specifically, the Belgian made two key passes in total, had three attempts at goal and won 83% of the dribbles he attempted.

The winger, who City signed for £55m during the previous summer transfer window, also showed how useful he can be off the ball by winning eight of the 10 ground duels he was involved in and making one tackle.

Another sign of how impressive the attacker was in this game was the fact that Milner was substituted for Brighton at halftime, presumably due to the struggle he had trying to defend against the City star.

This performance ultimately earned the winger an overall match rating of 8.3/10 from SofaScore, making him the highest-rated player on the day.

With all of that in mind, we feel that Doku has put himself in a great position to find himself in the starting XI for City’s next Premier League match against Manchester United next weekend.
