Man City contracts, expiry dates and players who could leave for nothing in 2024

Manchester City have one of the best squads ever assembled in the history of football.

It’s actually smaller than most of their Premier League and Champions League rivals, but Pep Guardiola has enjoyed incredible success in charge.

Manchester City’s expert squad and contract management also means they’re in little danger of losing important players for nothing. Not anytime soon at least.

Here are all of City’s first-team contracts order from those with the least time remaining to the most.

Scott Carson – Goalkeeper

Scott Carson has signed yet another one-year extension on his contract to keep him at the club for one more season at least.

Expiry date: June 30, 2025.

Stefan Ortega – Goalkeeper

German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega joined City on a free transfer in 2022 and signed a three-year deal but has now signed a new two-year contract.

Expiry date: June 30, 2026

Kevin De Bruyne – Midfielder

Now 32, injuries have started to catch up with Kevin De Bruyne and he has been linked with a move away from the Etihad in recent weeks.

Expiry date: June 30, 2025

Kyle Walker – Defender

Captain Kyle Walker came close to leaving City for Bayern Munich in the summer but instead decided to sign a new three-year deal.

Expiry date: June 30, 2026

John Stones – Defender

Fellow Yorkshireman John Stones last extended his contract in 2021.

Expiry date: June 30, 2026

Ederson – Goalkeeper

Ederson has been City’s first-choice goalkeeper since 2017 and will be for a couple of years yet.

Bernardo Silva – Midfielder

After years of speculation surrounding his future, Bernardo Silva ended the talk by signing a new three-year deal in the summer.

Sergio Gomez – Defender

The Blues signed Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht in the summer of 2022.

Expiry date: June 30, 2026

James McAtee – Midfielder

Currently on loan at Sheffield United, youngster James McAtee has a couple of years left on his deal.

Mateo Kovacic – Midfielder

Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic arrived from Chelsea last summer and signed a four-year deal.

Nathan Ake – Defender

Defender Nathan Ake was rewarded for his fantastic performances with a new contract last year.

Jack Grealish – Forward

Jack Grealish joined from Aston Villa in 2021 and is yet to sign a new contract.

Expiry date: June 30, 2027

Ruben Dias – Defender

Centre-back Ruben Dias is another who last signed a deal in 2021.

Expiry date: June 30, 2027

Manuel Akanji – Defender

City signed Manuel Akanji for a steal from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022 on a five-year deal.

Expiry date: June 30, 2027

Phil Foden – Forward

Phil Foden has been with City since he was a child and he isn’t going to leave any time soon. He signed a new contract in 2022.

Rodri – Midfielder

Guardiola’s most trusted midfield general last signed a new deal in 2021.

Erling Haaland – Forward

Star striker Erling Haaland signed a five-year deal upon his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

Joao Cancelo – Defender

Joao Cancelo hasn’t played competitively for City for well over a year after falling out with Guardiola. He’s currently on loan at Barcelona but still has years left on his Blues deal.

Josko Gvardiol – Defender

Josko Gvardiol was City’s big-money summer signing last year and they’ve been sure to tie him down for a long time.

Jeremy Doku – Forward

Belgium winger Jeremy Doku also signed last summer and signed a five-year contract.

Matheus Nunes – Midfielder

Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes also arrived this past summer and signed a five-year contract.

Julian Alvarez – Forward

Julian Alvarez earned a new deal after his massive contribution to the treble triumph last season.

Maximo Perrone – Midfielder

City signed Maximo Perrone from Velez Sarsfield last year and he’s currently on loan at Las Palmas.

Rico Lewis – Defender

Rico Lewis signed a new deal after his meteoric rise into the first team last year.

Kalvin Phillips – Midfielder

Kalvin Phillips is currently on loan at West Ham United after struggling for any action since his move from Leeds United. But he’s got a lot of years left on his contract.
