The injuries are already mounting up for Manchester City and here you can keep track of when the stricken players will be back in action.

The 2024/25 season is well underway and after making a strong start Manchester City have lost four games in a row across all competitions.

A key factor in this for Pep Guardiola has been his growing injury list.

Crucial midfielder Rodri will miss the entire campaign after suffering a devastating ACL injury while Oscar Bobb is out until the new year.

In addition, six more players are currently sidelined with various knocks and niggles.

Here’s all the latest news on City’s injured stars and when they could potentially be back on the field.

Illness has derailed Phil Foden’s season and a dose of Bronchitis has seen him miss the last two matches. He could return in midweek, though.

Nathan Ake has struggled with hamstring problems all season and has now picked up another strain. The injury isn’t as expected to keep him out as long as the one suffered in September did but Guardiola may be hesitant to throw him back into the team too quickly.

Potential return date: December 15, vs Manchester United

Manuel Akanji

Manuel Akanji was in contention to play against Crystal Palace as his fitness worries aren’t thought to be too serious, but he didn’t make the cut. There’s hope he will be back to face Juventus.

Potential return date: December 11, vs Juventus

The latest name on the City injury list is midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who has been ruled out for up to a month upon his return from international duty.

Kovacic was substituted at half-time of Croatia’s draw with Portugal and is set to miss a key run of games for the club.

Latest update: Pep Guardiola said on November 22: “It will be a while [until he’s back]. Three weeks or a month.”

Potential return date: Mid December

John Stones returned from injury against Tottenham but last just 45 minutes before going straight back on the shelf. He has suffered another knock and it’s not clear when he will return.

Latest update: Guardiola said on December 3: “No, not close [to returning]. Still is injured, has a problem with his feet. Next week.”

Oscar Bobb

Just when it seemed Oscar Bobb was going to take the Premier League by storm after a strong Community Shield performance, he was struck down by injury.

The playmaker suffered a fractured leg in training which required surgery and ruled him out of action for four months. Guardiola has revealed he expects Bobb back in January-February.

Latest update: Bobb told the National on October 24:

“It’s been just over two months now and we knew it was a long injury so I’m just focusing on getting a bit better every day and getting back.”

“Not as soon as possible, but as strong as possible,” he continued. “It was unfortunate, [but] I didn’t think of it as that bad just because I’ve seen loads of my friends get big injuries and a lot of them have come back stronger. So, I thought of it more as a pause rather than a setback.

“First and foremost [my aim is] getting back in good shape. And then hopefully pushing on from that and getting even more games than I got last year and contributing even more – scoring goals, getting assists and playing in the important games.”

Potential return date: January/February

Rodri

City fans were rightly worried the Blues were playing Rodri too much and the strain finally caught up with him in just his third appearance of the season.

Guardiola had given Rodri the opening weeks of the season off after the heavy workload of last season and the summer’s Euros but injury found him anyway.

Rodri suffered an ACL tear as well as meniscus damage in the draw with Arsenal and won’t play again this season.

Latest update: Guardiola said on September 27: “Good surgery this morning, ACL and some meniscus.

“So next season he will be here. This season is over. Yeah, unfortunately, he got the worst but it is what it is. At this level it happens, we’re here to support his recovery step by step and move forward.”

Potential return date: July 2025
