The nature of Manchester City’s squad rebuild in the summer could dictate their fortunes looking at the next couple of years.

History suggests that Manchester City will make the right moves in the transfer market and sooner rather than later return to the top.

But with Hugo Viana set to take over from Txiki Begiristain ahead of next season, only time will tell whether he has the best-possible players in mind to reinvigorate Pep Guardiola’s roster.

One player who City have been linked with a couple of months is Juventus right-back Andrea Cambiaso — who could succeed Kyle Walker, who Pep Guardiola is ready to sell.

Manchester City prepared to double Andrea Cambiaso’s wages

Tutto Sport have reported that Manchester City are prepared to double Cambiaso’s wages.

Andrea Cambiaso currently earns £2.1 million annually in Turin but at Manchester City, he would be able to bank £4.2 million.

The report further mentions that while the Sky Blues were interested in signing the 25-year-old during the winter transfer window, Juventus were demanding a fee of £68.5 million to let go of him.

While Manchester City never formalised their interest towards Cambiaso at the time, a deal in the summer for a fee in the range of £51 million to £60 million remains possible as the English giants are expected to submit an offer.

Pep Guardiola is especially keen on signing the versatile full-back, who can also play as a left-back.

Who does Andrea Cambiaso play like?

While Cambiaso might be viewed as the long-term replacement for Walker, he profiles much more like former Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo.

The Genoa-born defender is similar to the Al-Hilal full-back, as he too can play on both flanks, drift into midfield and is an incredible technician.

It is no surprise to discover that Pep Guardiola admires the former Bologna defender as much like Philipp Lahm, Cancelo and even Rico Lewis, he is also a multifaceted full-back who he can deploy as a tactical weapon.
