Journalist Jamie Jackson has suggested that Manchester City could be facing a big problem should Bernardo Silva leave the club this summer.

Since winning the treble with the Citizens at the end of last season, the midfielder has attracted transfer interest from clubs such as Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Hilal.

With the new season just over a couple of weeks away from starting, one journalist has been discussing the current state of affairs concerning the Portuguese international.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jackson had this to say about Silva and the possibility of him leaving City this summer.

He said: “Bernardo Silva might leave, yes.

“Now Ilkay Gundogan has already gone, [Mateo] Kovacic has come in, I would suggest he’s a different kind of midfielder but they’ve covered themselves there but if Bernardo Silva does he’s going to have a big problem there Guardiola because he is one of the main men kind of behind Kevin De Bruyne who is the main man still.

“He has got Phil Foden who could maybe step up into that.”

With the Manchester club reportedly offering Silva an improved contract to try and keep him at the club this shows how much they value him.

In addition to that, Pep Guardiola has previously and extensively shared his love for the midfielder, describing him as one of the best players he has coached throughout his career.

Having played the 28-year-old in all but six of City’s matches last season where he featured in numerous positions, it’s clear that the manager sees the versatile midfielder as a vital figure in the squad.

This could make the Spaniard the driving force behind the club doing what they can to keep hold of Silva.

Moving forward, if the Citizens keep hold of the player for at least another season, this will be a big positive for them and their chances of winning more silverware.

However, if he decides to sign a new deal and put to bed any doubts about his future at the Etihad, this would surely be great bit of business for the club to get done.
