Fabrizio Romano has said that Manchester City are still pursuing a transfer deal for Josko Gvardiol.
The Citizens have been linked with a move for the RB Leipzig defender for weeks after having agreed personal terms with him over a month ago.
However, after it was claimed that a deal had been struck between the two clubs, this ended up not being the case as Leipzig’s director, Max Eberl, came out and said a deal was not close.
Now though, Romano has been discussing the latest state of affairs surrounding City’s hunt for Gvardiol.
Romano discusses Gvardiol saga
Speaking on a recent episode of The Here We Go Podcast, Romano had this to say on the matter.
He said: “Let’s wait and see. They had an agreement in place, a medical booked then the leak was not so appreciated by those at Leipzig so it created a big mess around this story but let’s wait and see.
“I still think, and I’m still told that a deal is on, the conversation is on.
“They now maybe need to clarify something between the clubs because the player only wants to play with Manchester City and I’m told he’s been very clear with the people at RB Leipzig he wants to go there.”
Taking into account how Leipzig want a fee of €100m (£86m) to sell the 21-year-old, it’s easy to see why the process of negotiating a deal that suits all parties has taken a long time, especially if add-ons and other factors are involved as well.
However, with the player seemingly desperate to join Pep Guardiola’s side, in addition to the fact that City haven’t walked away from negotiations, despite showing in the past that they aren’t against doing so if they feel the price isn’t right, this shows how keen the player and the Manchester club are to see this move get completed.
Now that Romano has said that the conversations between Leipzig and City are still ongoing, this should encourage the City supporters that, one way or another, this transfer saga will come to an end, preferably with Gvardiol making his way to the Etihad Stadium.
