‘A great move’: Pundit says Man City could win the treble again if they buy ‘world class’ player

James Collins has suggested that Manchester City will have a great chance of winning the treble again next season if they sign Declan Rice this summer.

It has recently been reported that the Citizens are expected to make an offer to West Ham United to try and beat Arsenal to the midfielder’s signature after the Gunners saw two bids get turned down.

With that in mind, one former Hammers player has shared his thoughts on the situation and what a move to the Etihad Stadium could mean for Rice.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Collins said this on the matter.

He said: “I think any young footballer who is going that wants to win things as Declan clearly does because West Ham offered him a good deal to stay. It’s not about the money with Dec, he wants to go and win things, you’ve got to go to City.

“Arsenal had a fantastic year, got very close, but this Manchester City could go and win the treble again next year with Dec.

“I know Jack Grealish, you look at him and he’s gone to Man City, probably didn’t play as much as he wanted early on but he’s got his games and he’s won the treble.

“I think if Manchester City come in with a cash offer and a player, I think it’s a great move for West Ham.”

Having won five Premier League titles over the past six years, as well as numerous other domestic trophies and a Champions League during Pep Guardiola’s tenure, this showcases how familiar City are when it comes to winning silverware.

As Collins mentioned, the West Ham captain, who has been described as a “world class” player by journalist Adrian Durham, has previously shared his hopes of playing in a team that consistently competes for titles domestically and in Europe, which would make a move to City the most logical one in that sense.

Also, it would make sense from City’s point of view given that they could be without Ilkay Gundogan in their squad with recent reports claiming he has agreed a deal to join Barcelona as a free agent.

With all of that in mind, we feel that securing a deal for the England international would be a top signing for the treble-winners and certainly strengthen their midfield.
