Danny Murphy has heaped praise on Phil Foden’s performance in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the FA Cup.

Two goals from Bernardo Silva secured the Manchester club’s place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup this evening.

Towards the end of the match, one pundit took the time to highlight one City player’s performance that he was particularly impressed by.

Speaking in the BBC’s commentary of the match at the Etihad Stadium, Murphy had this to say when asked who he felt was the standout player against the Toon.

He said: “I’m going to name Phil Foden as Man of the Match, he’s done things in this match that make you go wow. Everything about him has just been a joy to watch. I just love watching him play, he’s in such a great place at the moment.”

With the full 90 minutes under his belt, the 23-year-old ended up making four key passes in total, more than any other City player on the night.

In addition to that, Foden has three shots at goal, two of which were off target and one was blocked.

Despite that, the Englishman was also able to do his bit from a defensive point of view as he made three tackles, one interception and won five of the six duels he was involved in.

This display ultimately earned Foden an overall match rating of 7.9/10 from SofaScore, making him the third-highest-rated City player on the day behind Silva and Rodri.

Taking all of that into account, it’s easy to see why Murphy was so impressed by what he saw from the City midfielder.

With the Blues now booked in for another Wembley trip to take part in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, if Foden can deliver a similar sort of performance to the one he made tonight, he’ll give his side a great chance of making it to the final once again.
