Nigel Reo-Coker has praised Pep Guardiola for the way he has managed his Manchester City players and their egos since they won the Treble.
Last season saw the Citizens win their fifth Premier League title in six years as well as the FA Cup and their first Champions League.
Now though, the Manchester club have failed to win any of their four previous Premier League games prior to today’s match against Luton Town.
With some questioning City’s ability to follow on from their Treble-winning campaign, one pundit has highlighted one positive aspect of the club’s season so far.
Reo-Coker hails Guardiola
Speaking in a recent edition of Football Daily, Reo-Coker had this to say about Guardiola and the way he has coached his side since their Treble win.
He said: “I give a lot of credit to Pep because I think when you look at it, what they achieved last year, the Treble, only them and Manchester United have done it in the history of English football.
“To come back, and what people don’t understand is it’s motivating those players. To keep those egos stroked and to keep them performing and still be in contention for the Premier League title and competing in the Champions League, they’re nowhere near out of it, I think it’s credit to Pep Guardiola.”
Having been a successful top-flight manager for many years with the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City, the Spaniard knows what it takes to coach top-level players and keep them motivated enough to continue working hard to win titles.
Prior to the start of this current league campaign, Guardiola said that winning the Treble again would be impossible and that City’s football, behaviour and mentality would dictate how the season goes, which shows what sort of mindset he wants his players to follow in order to be as successful as possible.
With all of that in mind, if the Citizens are able to regain any of the titles they picked up last season, this will increase Guardiola’s status as one of the best coaches in the world.
