Nedum Onuoha has claimed that Oscar Bobb has everything it takes to become a top player at Manchester City.

The midfielder was involved in City’s recent pre-season tour of Asia, which saw him feature in the second half of the Manchester club’s 5-3 win over Yokohama F. Marinos.

This has since led to one former City player sharing his verdict on the 20-year-old ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Speaking on a recent edition of the Official Man City Podcast, Onuoha had this to say about Bobb and what the future could hold for him at City.

He said: “I think given the fact that I think it was against Yokohama people were saying he played well but he said ‘no, I did some things wrong,’ that’s like the opposite of the way young people tend to think.

“It’s more a case of ‘wow, I played against Yokohama, I did a step over, did you see my through ball?’ But it’s the details and I think that attention to detail is what will take him to the very top.

“I think he’s a great player to have at the academy now and it’s also interesting how in these days where you can join an academy from your single figures, the fact that he wasn’t really part of the academy system until he was 12, 13 shows that he’s got a bit of rawness to him as well.

“But then has still managed to take on all the tactical elements so this is the type of player you want to have in there and to get the chance to play with some of these players, to be trusted by the manager, to be interested by one of the best managers in football, playing with some of the best players to play in the Premier League, and you’re there on merit, what a guy.

“You can tell he’s got a lot to offer, he’s got a lot of potential and he feels like he’s happy to be here as well, he’s humble and I think that level of humility is exactly what you need given the talent he has to give him the best chance to make a great career.”

Having joined City’s academy from Norwegian club Valerenga’s youth system back in the summer of 2019, the youngster has gone on to make 114 appearances for the Manchester club’s youth teams across all competitions, scoring 31 goals and delivering 33 assists along the way.

With the Norwegian being included in the pre-season squad, this could be so Pep Guardiola could get a good look at him and assess whether or not he’s ready to feature in the first team throughout the upcoming season.

Moving forward, if the 20-year-old isn’t likely to be getting many senior minutes over the coming months, it could be worth sending him out on loan to a top-flight side to see if he had what it takes to play in the Premier League and then get closer to staking a claim to be a regular figure in City’s side.
