Journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed that it’s a matter of when not if Manchester City secure a transfer deal for Josko Gvardiol.
The Citizens have been heavily linked with a move for the RB Leipzig defender in recent weeks and have apparently been in talks with the German club to try and negotiate a suitable fee for him.
With the Bundesliga side reportedly looking to pick up €100m (£86m) for the centre-back, one journalist has shared an update on the matter.
City not far from agreeing Gvardiol fee
In a recent Twitter post, Fjortoft had this to say about City’s pursuit of Gvardiol.
He said: “Re: Joško Gvardiol, Understand it’s just a matter of time before the RB Leipzig- defender is presented as Manchester City- player.
“The two parties not far from each other in terms of fee. The 21-year old Croatian is left footed and will be a great reinforcement for City.”
During his time at Leipzig, Gvardiol has made 87 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with five goals and three assists.
Last month, it was revealed that the player and his representatives had made it clear to Leipzig that they want to join Pep Guardiola’s side this summer.
Described as a “monster” on the pitch by Fabrizio Romano, the youngster showed how much of a capable defender he is back in the previous World Cup where he earned significant praise for his efforts for Croatia in Qatar.
Given how long the Manchester club have been pursuing the Leipzig star, this shows how eager they are to seal a move for him.
Now that Fjortoft has suggested that Gvardiol could be announced as a new City player soon, this will undoubtedly be an exciting bit of news for the supporters.
If this deal does get completed sooner rather than later, this will then give the club the chance to use the rest of the summer transfer window to make any other changes to the squad that they feel would be necessary.
