Sam Allardyce backs Manchester City to wrap up a mega-transfer for West Ham United captain Declan Rice in a major swap deal.
The former Leeds United boss made this prediction on his ‘No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast’ after it was reported that Pep Guardiola’s side could offer David Moyes’ men Kalvin Phillips in exchange.
While Arsenal have been heavily linked with a transfer for Declan Rice, Sam Allardyce expects Manchester City to win the race.
Sam Allardyce expects Manchester City to win Declan Rice transfer race
Interestingly enough, it was reported on Wednesday that the Sky Blues would only sign the Englishman in the event that Ilkay Gundogan left the club.
Lo and behold, Fabrizio Romano also revealed on the same day that the German’s move to Barcelona was all but official.
As Manchester City are likely to make a serious attempt to sign Declan Rice, Sam Allardyce has predicted them to get their man but only if they agree to a swap deal.

“Man City, somebody will go back the other way.”
“If I know Moyesey [David Moyes], there would have to be a player in the deal for him and that would mean it would be easier for the club who is buying him because they wouldn’t have to pay David Sullivan’s [asking price].”
Sam Allardyce did however note that Manchester City would not have to pay £100 million to sign Declan Rice if they offered them a player in exchange, it would be over £100million in total but it would be so much under that player and that player’s value would take that deal over £100million and David would get somebody he really needed.”
Manchester City should offer Kalvin Phillips in exchange
Sam Allardyce makes a fair point as if Manchester City do end up trying to sign Declan Rice, they will have to pay a pretty penny.
Not to suggest that Kalvin Phillips is not capable of redeeming himself in sky blue but it would be beneficial for both clubs if such a swap deal came to fruition.
City end up getting an upgrade in Rice while West Ham sign a proven replacement in Phillips.
