Nathan Ake has heaped praise on Pep Guardiola and what he has done for him since his arrival at Manchester City.

The defender recently put pen to paper on a new four-year contract at the Etihad Stadium after helping them win the treble last season.

This has since led to the 28-year-old reflecting on his time at the club so far and the things that he has enjoyed the most.

Speaking to the club’s media after his new contract was officially announced, Ake had this to say about Guardiola.

He said: “Pep is the best manager in football – a genius who has made me see the game differently – so to be able to work with him for longer is a real privilege. I am so grateful to him for everything he has done for me, both personally and professionally.”

The Dutchman joined City back in the 2020 summer transfer window from Bournemouth in a deal worth a reported fee of £41m

Since then, the centre-half has made 81 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, chipping in with seven goals along the way.

Last season saw the Netherlands international feature in 41 games, the last of which came in the Champions League final against Inter Milan where he completed the full 90 minutes.

This shows how much of an important figure Ake is for Guardiola, who has won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and one Champions League with the Citizens, which makes it easy to see why the defender has such heavy praise for him.

Having also broken numerous records during his time in charge of the club such as having more top-flight victories (34) in a calendar year than any other top-flight side has managed in the history of English football, this further backs up Ake’s opinion that the Spaniard is the best manager around at the moment.
