Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has highlighted one advantage that Manchester City have over Liverpool.

Following on from the latest international break which saw England secure their place in next year’s European Championship, Premier League action returns with a blockbuster clash between City and Liverpool.

Looking ahead to this big showdown, one pundit and former Reds star has pinpointed one specific advantage that Pep Guardiola’s side will have over their opponents for this particular game.

Speaking in a recent edition of The Sky Sports Football Podcast, Carragher had this to say about City’s home advantage over Liverpool.

He said: “I wouldn’t say it’s so much the atmosphere, I just think the size of the pitch and the quality of Manchester City gives you a real problem even if you’re a top team, you saw that with Real Madrid last year.

“We’ve seen that with Liverpool’s record over the last few years when they’ve gone there. That’s the big thing when you sort of envisage what’s going to maybe happen in the game, you think of those big spaces there and how difficult it is to control some of the attacking players for Manchester City, that gives any team a problem.”

Taking into account how City now have the chance to equal the record by an English top-flight club, set by Sunderland between 1890 and 1892 of winning 24 home games in a row across all competitions, in addition to the fact that Liverpool have only won once under Klopp at the Etihad, this makes it easy to see why Carragher thinks the Citizens will have the edge going into this game.

Also, with the Manchester club winning all five of their home league games in this campaign, scoring 16 goals and only conceding three in the process, this further highlights how dangerous they can be on their own turf, especially from an attacking point of view.

With all of that in mind, it’s understandable why Guardiola’s side may be seen as the favourites for this game, although that doesn’t mean a win will be easy to come by.
