Kyle Walker has moved to give credit to an unsung Manchester City figure for the part he played in John Stones’ goal vs Liverpool.

After so much anticipation, Manchester City and Liverpool delivered on the hype when they went head-to-head on Sunday.

It was a thrilling match with twists and turns and controversies. One that could have gone either way but eventually ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Pep Guardiola’s side looked in complete control in the first half and took the lead when John Stones forced the ball home at a corner.

It was a brilliantly worked set piece as Kevin De Bruyne took everyone by surprise with a low cross to the near post, reminiscent of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s famous corner against Barcelona.

Captain Kyle Walker has moved to credit set piece coach Carlos Vicens for the goal.

Speaking to City’s in-house media, Walker said: “The lads work hard.

“The set-piece coach Carlos [Vicens] works hard tirelessly and that’s a reward for him.

“We saw the space and capitalised on it.

“Ultimately, we’ve drawn the game but let’s not be too disheartened – we’re very pleased to come here and not lose.”

The Premier League race is wide open

Liverpool didn’t take things lying down and came out firing after the break. They won a penalty when Ederson upended Darwin Nunez in the box and got injured in the process.

Alexis Mac Allister levelled things up and City were forced to hold on as Jurgen Klopp’s side attacked in droves.

Both sides had chances to win – City hit the woodwork twice while Luis Diaz wasted a hat-trick of chances and Liverpool could have had a last-gasp penalty – but it ended all square.

Arsenal were the big winners as they’ve claimed top but now the Premier League title race has been blown wide open.

There is just a point separating the three teams with 10 games remaining and it’s anyone’s to win. City take on Arsenal at the end of March in another massive clash.

They have to win.
