Pundit and Scotland defender Rachel Corsie has named John Stones as being one of Manchester City best players last season.
The Citizens had one of their best seasons under Pep Guardiola last time out as they won their fifth Premier League title in six years as well as the FA Cup and the Champions League.
While players like Erling Haaland caught many headlines by scoring 52 goals in 53 games, one pundit has named another City player as being worthy of significant praise.
Corsie hails Stones
Speaking in a recent edition of the Football Daily podcast, Corsie, who plays for Aston Villa Women, had this to say about Stones and his recent few years at City.
She said: “I think John Stones, two years ago he had a difficult time, he was in and out.
“I think a lot of people maybe weren’t sure he’d play but you see him last season I think he was a standout for them.”
Last season saw the Englishman feature in 34 games across all competitions, chipping in with three goals and three assists along the way.
Interestingly, the 29-year-old, who City signed back in 2016 for a total sum of £50m, ended up playing in numerous positions such as centre-back, right-back and even a defensive-midfield role.
Stones’ efforts in the middle of the pitch quickly earned him praise from the City boss, who said the player deserves praise for his versatility.
As Corsie mentioned, the Englishman was apparently facing a move out of the Manchester club back in 2020 after falling out of favour with Guardiola.
However, given how successful City were last season, with Stones showing his worth to the manager and ability to play in different positions, it’s turned out to be a good thing for everyone that he ended up staying where he was.
