Oleksandr Zinchenko has said that the best captain he has ever played with in his career remains Manchester City icon Vincent Kompany.
Speaking in an interview with Rio Ferdinand on the FIVE YouTube channel, the Arsenal left-back was quizzed about the hardest worker he has ever shared a dressing room.
Oleksandr Zinchenko instantly named Vincent Kompany, while describing his brilliant work ethic and leadership qualities.
Oleksandr Zinchenko says Vincent Kompany is the best captain he has ever played with
In fact, Pep Guardiola once likened Ruben Dias to the now-Burnley boss in terms of his selfless nature and unteachable abilities as a natural leader of men.
It seems like any and everyone who has ever been associated with the Sky Blues considers the Belgian legend as the epitome of leadership.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is no different, as he lauded Vincent Kompany for his hard graft as well as a captain.

“Vincent. Oh my gosh, absolute animal. Never seen something like this. His last season at City, he was struggling a lot with his injuries and I’ve seen his rehabs, in the gym…as soon as he’s back on the pitch, let’s be honest…not you, you are the same breed but when you came from the injury, in your first sessions, you just protect yourself.”
“Him? Never ever. First session, young players, old players…ah! Ah [gestures towards tackling players] come on, you!’ Never seen something like this. Best captain I’ve ever played with”, he said.
Vincent Kompany is one of the best captains of his generation
Much like Oleksandr Zinchenko, Pep Guardiola also once said, as relayed by talkSPORT that it is ‘incredible’ how Vincent Kompany constantly returned from injury and operated at his usual elite level.
A key factor behind the retired centre-back’s legendary status as a skipper is due to how he put his body through the toughest tests time and again just for the Sky Blues’ sake and through all the pain and agony, he remained one of the best in the world.
Kompany captained City during a time when they were yet to win a single Premier League title and led from the front in the biggest of moments to spearhead them into becoming English football’s all-conquering juggernaut.
