‘Absolute team player’… Roy Keane left amazed by one Manchester City star today

Roy Keane was left impressed with one Manchester City player in particular following the win over Manchester United.

Manchester City’s fantastic unbeaten run continued on Sunday as they came from behind to beat Manchester United 3-1.

The visitors gave City an early bloody nose as they took a shock lead through Marcus Rashford’s sensational strike.

However, Pep Guardiola’s side completely dominated and their control eventually paid off just after the break.

Phil Foden cut inside and smacked a brilliant shot of his own right into the top corner.

The 23-year-old completed the turnaround with a smart finish before Erling Haaland secured the win in stoppage time.

Foden will once again grab all the headlines after another match-winning display, but Roy Keane was impressed with him for more than just his goals.

Roy Keane has high praise for Phil Foden

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Keane said: “There’s great competition for that England squad, obviously Gareth is very lucky.

“Foden has to be in the starting XI. As brilliant as he was going forward today the other bits of the game where I was looking at him.

“His running back, his getting back and doing a job for the team. To me, this kid’s an absolute team player. He has to be in that England team.”

Where will Phil Foden play for England?

Surely at this stage, there is no question over whether or not Foden will be in the starting XI for Euro 2024.

The ‘Stockport Iniesta’ is in the race to be crowned the player of the season and has now broken his best-ever goal contribution tally with plenty of football left to play.

It would be lunacy to leave him out of the Three Lions side. The real question is, where will he play?

In a dream world, Foden should be in midfield. Guardiola has trusted him there this season and he has delivered.

A trio of Foden, Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham would terrify every team and, as Keane says, Foden does enough defensive work to ensure it wouldn’t too attacking.

In reality, Foden will likely play out on the left with a more defensive-minded player taking a spot in the middle instead.
