AC Milan are reportedly eyeing a transfer move for Manchester City loanee Yan Couto.

The right-back is currently on loan at Girona, who are currently two points clear at the top of La Liga.

Despite the Brazilian having a contract at City that isn’t set to expire until the summer of 2025, one of Europe’s big clubs have set their sights on landing a deal for him in the next transfer period.

According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Milan are keen on securing a permanent transfer deal for Couto during the next summer transfer window.

The report also adds that Milan’s chief scout, Geoffrey Moncada, is eager to sign Couto but recognises that it could be a tough ask to get him away from City, who could see the defender as a long-term heir for Kyle Walker.

City signed the 21-year-old back in the 2020 summer transfer window from Brazilian club Coritiba FC and have since seen the full-back complete previous loan deals with clubs such as Girona and Braga.

This season has seen Couto feature in 12 of Girona’s 13 La Liga games, starting eight of them and featuring in numerous defensive and attacking positions across the right-hand side of the pitch, chipping in with one goal and three assists.

Described as a “superb talent” by Twitter scout Jacek Kulig, Couto has shown in this current La Liga campaign how much of a useful and effective player he can be in an attacking and defensive sense.

For example, in addition to having the joint-highest number of crosses into the penalty area (7) in the Girona squad, the Brazilian has also racked up the joint-second-highest number of successful tackles (12).

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Milan are apparently keen on adding Couto to their ranks once his latest loan spell away from City comes to an end.

Looking ahead to the summer, it’ll be interesting to see what the Manchester club’s position on Couto will be in terms of whether they think he is ready to be a regular figure in their team or if they feel the time is right to cash in on him.
