The club of one Manchester City target are reportedly now planning for life without him, having identified a possible replacement.

City are set for a big summer, as they seek to prepare for the 2024/25 season.

It may well be Pep Guardiola’s final season in charge, with his current contract expiring in the summer of 2025.

If he is going to go, he will want to leave on a high, and so will want the best squad possible.

Recently though, there have been suggestions that a key player could be set to depart. Ederson, who has been City’s number one since 2017, has been linked with a shock exit.

Mike Maignan of AC Milan is thought to be someone City would move for if the Brazilian left.

Now, it has been suggested the Italian giants are actually preparing for his departure…

Supposedly, Ederson could leave City this summer if the club receive a good enough proposal.

In Stefan Ortega, the club have a very good number two and somebody very capable of stepping up to become number one.

Ederson has had the unwavering support of Guardiola for the longest time. But with there being very little drop-off in quality, if any at all, to Ortega, it seems his exit is not totally out of the question this summer.

AC Milan are keeping a close eye on this situation, because if Ederson goes then it’s possible City will come calling for £58,000-a-week France international Maignan.

Now, Polish publication Meczycki have reported that Milan are actually preparing for potential life without Maignan, and are ‘seriously interested’ in Marcin Bulka, who plays for Nice and is the number one for Poland.

Ederson could be off

Milan’s interest in Bulka is interesting.

It could be that the Italian club have gotten the impression that Ederson will be leaving City, and that they intend to make a move for Maignan.

Or, this could well just be Milan scouting potential replacements just in case Maignan ends up leaving.

At the moment this is one of the most fascinating transfer situations at City, because no one really saw the Ederson exit links coming. The Brazilian has been the number one at City for a long time and his position has never really been under threat before.

But one wonders if he might just fancy a change this summer. He has achieved huge success at City and won a lot of titles. Perhaps a big payday in the Saudi Pro League will appeal, even though he could very easily still play at the top level for years to come.
