With Manchester City having a habit of both producing and signing some of the best young prospects in Europe, it comes as no surprise when such players go on to become household names elsewhere.
Despite that being the case, City have no shortage of top talents themselves, with Bernardo Silva dubbing Oscar Bobb as “special” and Pep Guardiola describing Claudio Echeverri as “incredible.”
However, Cole Palmer is the standout example of Manchester City offloading an elite talent, considering he had already scored in the FA Community Shield and the UEFA Super Cup for Pep Guardiola before joining Chelsea.
The same applies to Romeo Lavia, who thrived at Southampton before signing for the Blues and while injuries have curtailed the Belgian’s progress, he looks like a top player every time he is on the pitch.
Tottenham eyeing former Man City star Morgan Rogers
Morgan Rogers is another gem who Manchester City let go in 2023, letting Middlesbrough sign him for £1.5 million (TNT Sports).
Since signing for Aston Villa, the 23-year-old has been a revelation — emerging as Unai Emery’s go-to man.
While Emery is a big fan of Rogers, The Independent have reported that Tottenham consider the former Manchester City midfielder a “priority target” and have established contacts with intermediaries to discover their chances of signing him.

Aston Villa have no interest in selling the England international but there is a “feeling” that a sizable bid could force them to change their stance as the club continues to face concerns regarding PSR.
Tottenham bid £69 million to sign Savinho and while the club have discussed a potential £80 million fee to seal a deal for Rogers, Villa will demand north of such a figure to consider a sale.
Morgan Rogers revealed why he wasn’t ‘good enough’ for Man City
While Rogers has become one of the best players in the Premier League, attracting interest from a club of Tottenham’s stature, he told ITV in March that Manchester City let him go because he was not good enough.
The Englishman admitted he was not ready for City as a young player, saying: “I wasn’t good enough. Simple as that. I wasn’t ready, I wasn’t ready to be there, I wasn’t myself, I wasn’t the person that they signed in terms of what they expected me to go on and be.”
Rogers, concluded: “It wasn’t the right player at the right time, for me and the club.”
