Tony Cascarino has said that Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is almost as good a passer as Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the well-known pundit was breaking down the England international’s shift to a right-sided midfield role.

According to Tony Cascarino, not only is Trent Alexander-Arnold excellent in midfield but as a passer, he is almost on the same level as Kevin De Bruyne.

Despite admitting to having played with a hamstring injury for a significant chunk of last season, the Belgian playmaker registered an incredible 31 assists in all competitions.

Despite being 32 years of age and perhaps past his absolute best, De Bruyne remains one of, if not the most devastating creator in world football.

However, Tony Cascarino believes that Trent Alexander-Arnold is already almost as proficient at passing the ball as Kevin De Bruyne.

“He sees so many passes that few [can]. Kevin De Bruyne can see passes for fun, Trent ain’t far behind him. He can see that ball, he can put it on a six pence for someone.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold is an outstanding passer but that is a stretch

While Tony Cascarino is fair to laud the Englishman as a world-class passer, to claim that he sits on the same table as Kevin De Bruyne in terms of this very attribute is an exaggeration to say the least.

Admittedly, Alexander-Arnold is one of the few players in the world that can execute some of the best passes in De Bruyne’s locker.

But even so, the variety of passes that the treble-winner has proven he can pull off over the years is what makes him a generational creator.

Trent Alexander-Arnold could perhaps reach such a high standard one day but for the time being, he is nowhere near as extraordinary a passer as the Manchester City icon.
