Al Ahli are reportedly ready to tempt Riyad Mahrez with a £43 million salary to make a move to Saudi Arabia from Manchester City.

The winger’s future remains up in the air right now.

Mahrez, 32, struggled for starts at City towards the end of the season just gone.

He did not start the FA Cup final or the Champions League final, something he was said to be disappointed about.

Since the end of the season, there has been reports of interest from Al Ahli.

The Saudi Pro League are intent on luring high profile players this summer, and have already bagged Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Neves.

Ilkay Gundogan is officially leaving City to join Barcelona. And it could be that Mahrez is next out the door at the Etihad…

Apparently, they are preparing to offer him a staggering £43 million over two years.

That is five times is current salary at City.

Mahrez, who has also been looked at by PSG, is said to be open to finishing his career in Saudi.

That said, the £160,000-a-week ace is also uncertain about leaving. He’s playing for the best side in world football at the moment and has just won a Treble. While he lost his starting berth towards the end of the season, Mahrez still showed a high level throughout 2022/23, scoring 15 goals and making 13 assists in 47 appearances.

Mahrez will surely be tempted to join Al Ahli

There is no doubt about it – Mahrez could easily still play for any top club in Europe.

He was still really good last season, despite struggling for starts towards the end. The hat-trick in the FA Cup semi-final was especially brilliant, and it led to Jermain Defoe branding him ‘unplayable’.

But he might just be tempted by those wages. Surely anybody would think twice if there was potential to earn so much.

Mahrez is coming to the end of his career and might fancy the move, having now won all there is to win with City in England.

If a suitable transfer offer came in from Al Ahli, then City would surely be open to a sale.

The club have just sanctioned Gundogan’s exit and he is the same age as Mahrez.
