Manchester City have the chance to bring their horrid run of defeats to an end on Saturday.

Tuesday night’s 4-1 defeat at Sporting CP gave City their third consecutive loss of the season, making it the first time they’ve lost that many on the bounce since 2018.

For their final match before the November international break, City take on Brighton & Hove Albion away from home.

Looking ahead to this big match that everyone at the Manchester club will be desperate to win, a pundit and former Premier League star has shared his thoughts on how it could pan out for the Blues.

Alan Shearer drops Man City vs Brighton prediction

In his latest article for Metro where he previewed and predicted the results for this weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures, Alan Shearer gave this assessment of City’s match against the Seagulls.

He said: “It’s a tough game for Man City after their third straight defeat in the week at Sporting.

“Pep has already said they’re struggling with injuries, but I think what we’ve learnt over the years is that, when it perhaps isn’t going well for Man City, there shouldn’t be any panic, because they often come back and find the right answers.

“It’ll be a really tough game though because we know how Brighton are playing and they caused Liverpool plenty of problems last week, but I do think City have enough to go to Brighton and win the game, just.”

Danny Murphy backed City to get back on track against Brighton

As things stand, the champions are two points behind Liverpool at the top of the table, seven points and six places above Brighton.

Shearer isn’t the only Match of the Day pundit to back the Citizens to beat Fabian Hurzeler’s side, as Danny Murphy gave this prediction on City’s match at Brighton.

He said: “I think they’ll go to Brighton at the weekend and beat them. I think they’ll all have a kick up the backside. He’ll put [Kevin] De Bruyne back in, he’ll put [Kyle] Walker back in, he’ll put [Nathan] Ake back in, he’ll put [Ilkay] Gundogan back in.

“Because they were all on the bench last night to get back with the squad even if they’re not 100% he’ll put them in. What the best players do and the best managers do is they respond.”

In his press conference, Hurzeler was asked about City’s form and if he thinks it gives Brighton an ideal opportunity to beat them, to which he gave this response.

He said: “Against every team there are opportunities. Especially this season, the league is so equal. It’s very, very competitive.

“Everyone can beat everyone and we see it every weekend. That’s why we always see an opportunity. We always see a chance.

“Of course, we have a lot of respect. City is, for me, still the best team in the world, they have the best manager in the world.

“But in the end, it’s a game and we play at home and we want to continue our process and we see this as a next opportunity to challenge the establishment.”

Given how they’ve lost their last three game and this is the last match before the latest international break, the Blues will only having winning all three points on their mind.

Even though the Seagulls have had a mixed start to their season and Shearer has backed City to win, this will still be a tough match for the away side.
