Alan Shearer has highlighted Kevin De Bruyne as one of the standout performers of the latest Premier League season.

The midfielder ended the recent campaign with his fifth league title having featured in 32 of City’s 38 games.

His performances across those appearances have since earned the Belgian some significant praise from one pundit, in particular.

Shearer heaps praise on De Bruyne

Speaking in a recent video on the official Premier League website where he went through his Team of the Season, Shearer had this to say about De Bruyne.

He said: “A centre-forward’s dream. No wonder [Erling] Haaland got so many goals with him passing it.

“I just think his ability to find that pass, whether it’s a cross into the box or whether it’s a ball in behind, has been absolutely magnificent.”

In addition to scoring seven goals in the league this season, the 31-year-old also ended the campaign with more assists (16) than any other player in the division.

To further highlight how impressive the City star has been this season, specifically in terms of creating goalscoring opportunities, De Bruyne has the highest rate of shot-creating actions (6.55) and goal-creating actions (1.15) per 90 minutes in the league.

His overall performances ultimately earned the midfielder, who City paid £54m to sign back in 2015, a solid season rating of 7.58/10 from WhoScored, leaving only four other players across Europe’s top five leagues with higher ratings.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Shearer included the Belgian in his Team of the Season and had such heavy praise for him.

Moving forward, with Guardiola’s side gearing up to take on Manchester United in the FA Cup this weekend and then Inter Milan in the Champions League final next weekend, if De Bruyne can help his side win those games, it would surely seal what would be the best season of his career with the Citizens.
