Alan Shearer has named one Manchester City star as being one of the most skilful players in Europe.

After City won their sixth Premier League title in seven years at the end of their latest campaign under Pep Guardiola, numerous figures in the squad are now likely to feature in the upcoming European Championship in Germany.

Looking ahead to the summer tournament, one pundit and former England star has highlighted one special attribute that he feels one specific City player has more than any other player in Europe.

Alan Shearer says Phil Foden has unbelievable skills

In a recent video shared on Goal’s official TikTok channel, Shearer was asked to build his ideal Euros player ahead of the upcoming tournament in Germany.

To do this, the former England striker was asked to pick certain players based on who he feels has the best right foot, left foot, speed, strength, skills and football IQ in Europe right now.

When asked to pick a player with the best skills and technical ability, the pundit chose Phil Foden.

Foden is one of the best technical players around

In 270 senior appearances for the Manchester club, the 24-year-old has scored 87 goals and delivered 53 assists across all competitions.

Looking back over his latest top-flight campaign, which saw the midfielder be named the Premier League Player of the Season, Foden racked up the second-highest total of carries into the penalty area (56) and successful take-ons (47) in the City squad.

In terms of his strengths on the pitch, WhoScored name one of them as being his ability to hold onto the ball, which showcases how strong his technical ability is.

Back in September, Guardiola shared his praise for Foden’s ability on the ball by saying this.

He said: “With the ball, he doesn’t have to improve anything. Playing inside, he has certain qualities. His first control and dynamic and how he attacks the last line, it’s difficult to find around the world.

“Every control he makes he knows exactly where the goal is. His control, he doesn’t need two or three touches to know how to attack, he knows exactly when he receives it, right or left he’s always a threat.”

With all of that taken into account, it should come as no surprise to any City supporter that Shearer picked Foden for having the best skills and technical ability in Europe.
