Erling Haaland scored two more goals for Manchester City yesterday, and Alan Shearer has suggested Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is envious of Pep Guardiola’s scoring machine.
The Norway international was back in the starting XI against Southampton, after missing the 4-1 win over Liverpool.

The Saints managed to keep him fairly quiet for most of the first-half.
But Haaland popped up just before the half-time whistle to give City the lead, heading in Kevin De Bruyne’s cross from the left wing.
He then scored a bicycle kick in the second-half from a Jack Grealish cross, before making way for Julian Alvarez.
And he might have had the chance for another hat-trick, with City getting a penalty minutes after his departure.
But he settled for two, meaning his tally is now 44 across all competitions this season.
It is truly mind-boggling what he is doing, and Pep Guardiola spoke about him in terms of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi after the game.

Haaland is just inevitable for City, and the Premier League’s greatest ever goalscrer Shearer reckons he is probably leaving Spurs star Kane jealous.
He said in his Athletic column: “When I watch City, I drool, and I’m sure Kane will feel similar. In any other season, we would be lauding Harry for his greatness, but until he broke England’s goalscoring record the other day, he’d barely had a mention because of the ridiculous standards Haaland is setting.
“He’s a beast, virtually unstoppable, operating at a different level and tearing up records, re-writing the rules for what it means to be prolific in the Premier League.”
Harry Kane is surely wishing he got his move to Man City seeing Erling Haaland score so many goals
Shearer is right. Kane is actually having a brilliant season, but it is barely being spoken about because of Haaland’s exploits.
That must frustrate £200,000-a-week star Kane, knowing he is no longer the most lethal marksman in the Premier League.
And it must be deeply frustrating that it could have been him getting all these goals. Of course, back in the summer of 2021, there was heavy speculation that City wanted Kane and even claims a bid of £100 million was made.

In the end, Daniel Levy stood firm and Kane stayed put.
One wonders how much he thinks about what might have been. There’s no doubt he would also be scoring bucket-loads in a sky blue shirt, just as Haaland is now.
