With the 2024 European Championship almost over, many Manchester City players have played key roles in the tournament.
Out of the 14 City players who were selected to represent their countries in this summer’s tournament, five of them made it to the semi-final stage of the competition.
One of those five players have recently found themselves on the end of some significant praise from a pundit who knows all about playing on the international stage.

Alan Shearer amazed by ‘magnificent’ Rodri in latest Spain match
While assessing Spain’s recent 2-1 win over France in the semi-finals of the Euros, Alan Shearer had this to say in a recent edition of The Rest Is Football about Rodri’s performance in the game.
He said: “From a Spain point of view, again, I was saying about, they had to show a different side as well, where they had to defend and they had to dig deep, and they had to.
“I mean, Rodri was magnificent again in midfield, and protecting, like, just unbelievable.
“So they’ve been the best team by far in this tournament, so they deserve, without a shadow of a doubt, they deserve their spot in the final.”
Rodri proved his worth to Spain once again
Across the 90 minutes against the French, Rodri had 67 touches of the ball in total, accurately completing 52 of the 55 passes he attempted.
This gave the midfielder a passing accuracy percentage of 95%, the joint-highest in the Spain team alongside Nacho Fernandez.
Having also made three clearances and one tackle, the City star, who Andy Townsend recently said is irreplaceable for Pep Guardiola’s side, certainly played a key role in seeing Spain secure their place in the final.
Therefore, it’s easy to see why Shearer was so impressed by Rodri’s latest performance for his country.
Looking ahead to Sunday’s final, Rodri will be facing off against either one or three of his City teammates depending on who goes through out of Nathan Ake’s Netherlands or England with Phil Foden, John Stones and Kyle Walker.
